Well, it's been 3 days with my student, and WOW, this is HARD! I expected it to be different and somewhat difficult because I haven't been a clinical instructor (CI) before, but it's actually a lot more work than I thought it would be. It takes a lot more thought and energy than I thought it would. Prep work, research work, scheduling work, evaluation work, and most of all self control work. I want to let her do evals and treats and be the therapist, but I also want her to learn and get help when she needs it. I'm not always sure when to junp in and tell her what to do, or help her, and when to hold myself back and let her do what she needs to do.
Also with documentation, she has trouble putting things into appropriate wording, which comes with time. It took me awhile to be proficient at it even after I had my license. I want her to think and write and get it by herself, but she does need help and sometimes I feel like I'm dictating to her, or rather she asks for a suggestion, I give her an example or "topic" and she'll write what I say word-for-word, instead of taking the suggestion and formulating her own goal, or assessment. So I'm not sure where to draw the line, when to tell her stuff and when to let her think, when to jump in and tell her she's forgotten something and when to let her figure it out on her own.
I know it hasn't even been a week, so it's hard initially to let her take initiative etc. BUT, she's been a PTA for 15 years, in an acute care hospital, so she has a lot of experience (more than me) dealing with patients, treating patients, etc. Part of me feels like I don't have anything to teach her. And part of me sees the trouble with assessments and goals, or even documentation specific enough or assessment enough for a PT rather than a PTA. It's a hard situation to be in.
Like I said, it takes more work that I thought it would, more thought and more self control. All while tring to give her a good, and learning filled/challenging clinical experience.
And WOW does having a student change your productivity! I'm doing like 3 or so evals a DAY, and that's usually a morning for me. It takes a lot longer to write things up, and discuss, and answer questions and teach etc. But that's to be expected I guess.
Sometimes I feel like I'm teaching her bad habits. Like I've fallen into a pattern of generalizing things that are on specific measurement scales, saying min, mod, or severe instead of grade 1, 2, 3, or 4. Or I'll do a gross assessment instead of performing specific tests. But the funny thing is, when I ask all the other therapists, what certain scales were, because she had asked and I had forgotten, they didn't know either. They generalized also. BUT, she needs to know these things for her boards and supposedly to be a good clinician. So I have to really think about the specifics of tests, and measurements etc, instead of making generalizations. Do as I say, and not as I do....
But in a way, it's good, it keeps my own skills sharp, it keeps me on my toes and always learning, it keeps me from getting to complacent and relaxed, it kicks me in the buttocks enough that I realize I still have a lot to learn. ESPECIALLY if I want to end up teaching in PT some day.
So being a CI is a lot of work, but it's fun at the same time. My student is really nice, we get along, we seem to work well together. It's nice to have an extra hand for assistance or a boost when I need it instead of finding a nurse for help. And it's a different experience, and keeps life interesting. So I like it so far. Though it still feels different and kind of weird. But that's ok too. :)

The Madness of FedEx
I ordered a pair of shoes online form Casual Corner. :) The same sandals I got from them in white for my cousins bridal shower, in black. I figured they fit, they were comfortable, they looked good, I needed a pair of black dress sandals, I should just get these. PLUS they were on sale. Sealed the deal.
ANYWAY, So I got an email from Casual Corner today saying my shoes were shipped yesterday and here's my FedEx tracking # if I wanted to track my order.
So I did, curious as to when I'd get my package. I'll probably get them today, but what an out of the way route they took!
They were shipped from Elmsford NY. Elmsford is in Westchester, about a half hour from me in Stamford. But the shoes were first brought to another FedEx facility in Willington CT. Willington is in the Northeast corner of CT, About 2 hours away from me and about 2.5 hours away from Elmsford. They went 2 hundred miles and 4 hours out of their way to ship me my sandals when they could have driven a half hour from Elmsford.
Now I ask you, does this make sense? Why couldn't they ship it to me directly from Elmsford? I'd get the shoes a day earlier, and the company saves $$ on gas, and salary, PLUS they get kudos from me on a quick delivery. No wonder it's so expensive to ship something!
Does anyone know WHY the roundabout route was taken? Because it sure doesn't make sense to me!!!!

Saw this on the bathroom wall too.
"Seatbelts are not as confining as wheelchairs"
SO TRUE!
When I was a student, I had a rotation at The Mount Sinai Medical Center, in their Spinal Cord Injury Rehab Center. And I saw a lot of traumatic spinal cord injuries. And there are different mechanisms, but one main one I saw was MVA without a seatbelt. The other one, Motorcycle accident. Thats a BIGGIE! There were like 4 patients on the unit who were in motorcycle accidents. I will NEVER EVER get on a motorcycle. And I ALWAYS wear my seatbelt, and I make everyone else in mycar wear them too. The care stays parked until all seatbelts are snapped in. 8 weeks ont that unit was enough drill that into me. It's pretty scary what can happen.
So before I get off of my soap box, WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS!!!! I'm not going to say don't ride a motorcycle, (even though I wouldn't ever) but if you do, BE CAREFUL! and WEAR A HELMET! Brain Injuries aren't fun either.
Ok, Down off the soap box.
On another note, will the rain EVER STOP!?!?!?! OY!!!!
Ok, time to finish the laundry and prep for my student tomorrow! YIKES!!! Wish me luck! And give me Chicago tips if you have them! Thanks! BYE BYE!!!! :)

I couldn't resist another post this evening.
But there was a GREAT joke in one of the bathrooms today. Going to the bathroom is always interesting in the hospital. With all the weddings I have come up this summer, and all the weddings co-workers have coming up this summer and fall, I thought it was pretty good.
Jane's wedding day was approaching, and she couldn't be more excited. Nothing, not even her parent's recent, nasty divorce was going to spoil the day. And her mother had found the perfect dress! She looked AMAZING in it and she would be the best dressed Mother-of-the-Bride ever.
Soon after, Jane discovered that her fathers new young wife had bought the same exact dress! Jane was mortified! She explained the situation and asked her if she would exchange the dress for something else. The step-mother adamantly refused, "I look like a million bucks in that dress, there's NO WAY I'm returning it!!"
Jane went home and told her mother what had happened. Her mother said , "Don't worry sweetie, I'll get another dress, it's your special day." So Jane and her mother went the next day to look for a new dress. They were very successful, and Jane's mother bought another stunning dress. Jane asked her mother if she was going to return the first dress, she really didn't have another occasion she could wear it to.
Janes mother replied, "No sweetie, I'm not going to return it. And I have the perfect occasion to wear it to, I'm wearing it to the Rehearsal Dinner!"

My week...
Well it hasn't been bad, busy, and yet seemingly uneventful.
Our Seder's were really nice. We went to our Rabbi's home for the first Seder, and my parent's for the second Seder. It was nice to be able to do a full Seder with singing and discussions etc the first night. My family doesn't do a full Seder; we basically read a 5-minute schtick about the Exodus story and the 4 questions and then eat.
And cooking for the Seder at my families was nice. I have this new matzah cookbook. And you can make all this stuff that’s AMAZING with matzah. Not QUITE like normal, but pretty close. And MUCH better than anything else I've ever tried. It’s all about preparing the matzah so that it's soft and pliable etc. So I made this "noodle" kugel with matzah instead of noodles, and it was AWESOME! I don't like sweet kugels, but my family does, and this came out great, and it really didn't taste like matzah at all. Almost able to say that you couldn't tell that it was matzah instead of noodles. THAT'S GOOD! And also made an artichoke frittata (YUMMY!) And Rob made a hazelnut, raspberry, coffee whipped cream cake. DOUBLE YUMMY!!
On Monday, (Note, April 25th)Rob and I went "hiking" in this park that stretches between Stamford and Greenwich. Mianus River Park. I quote hiking because there aren't any mountains to climb in this part of CT. But we were walking on a trail in the woods along a river and there were some hills. It was a REALLY nice day. (The PERFECT date!) Not too hot, and not too cold, all I needed was a light jacket! We had a good day/date :) We walked/hiked. we saw dogs, we saw a river, we got lost on the interconnecting trails, we got to spend time together enjoying nature, it was fun. And matzah hadn't gotten old yet.
Tuesday I went back to work, and went back to Employee Health Services to get my clearance to be a PT again. My Shoulder/Back feels better, still a bit achy at times but pretty much better. And I got the clearance to be a PT again and so I did. :) But not with that psycho woman who hurt my back. Instead with another woman who also was adamantly refusing to get OOBTC. Only this time, she was tiny, and she eventually let me. Only in the process she told me I didn't know what I was talking about, we had to do it HER way, and I was absolutely wrong. Ahhhhh. Old ladies. BUT to make up for it I saw the cutest patient in the world. I've BLOGged about her before. A 76 year old woman who plays golf and runs and does yoga. She had an infection in her spine causing pain and surgery and weakness. She had gone to rehab but she came back because she was sick and in pain. And she came back complaining that she wasn't getting enough rehab, she wanted more. And how she needed to be on the golf course by the end of the season. She was so cute and so nice and it was an absolute pleasure to work with her. :) Oh yeah and I started to get sick of matzah.
Tuesday evening was my last painting class for the semester. :( No more till the summer. When I get some time I'll take some pics of my paintings I did this semester and post them up. But someone baked fresh brownies and chocolate chip cookies for the last class and they were still warm and smelled so good, it was KILLING me not to have one. It was hard. Matzah STINKS!
Wednesday was uneventful at work. Matzah still stinks.
Thursday I had off. I went with my Mom to Macy's. This one is a HUGE Macy's on LI. It's a stand alone store, not attached to a mall, so it's larger and had more stuff in it's departments, and had more departments than most of the other stores. I went mainly to get the watch my parents were getting me for my birthday, which is at the end of May, and to get shoes. Well, I got the watch. It's actually the same one that I had before, only this one works. And well, I'm a creature of habit. And it was still the nicest one in the case. And it had all that I needed. Two toned to go with everything, waterproof so I can wear it in the shower and swimming, and it has the date AND the day of the week. Something I LOVE because I never know what day it is with my crazy work schedule.
Ok so I got the watch, and THEN I got makeup, go figure. And then my Mom insisted on buying me 2 Dooney & Bourke pocketbooks, one black and one white. The ones with all the colors, one with the hearts, and the other with the DB's. And yes I guess I needed more than just a beat up purse to hold my wallet and phone and keys. Something to use when I go out or get "dressed" or something like that. But I'm SO not a girl, and I'm SO not comfortable with this kind of stuff, and these are EXPENSIVE bags! And I HATE to feel expensive, and I felt worse because she had just bought me my makeup and a watch. It just seemed like so much. But my Mom was insistent, I HAD to have the bags and they're really nice, and well, I couldn't but but but and argue anymore. And it made her happy so I let her get me the bags.
But OY, then there was the clothing. I paid for these, but Oh my gosh! I have NEVER bought so much at one time before. A dress with a sweater to go with it, a skirt and shirt, and another shirt. My mom btw, was going NUTS in the store trying to get me to try on and buy all this stuff, I had to take a lot out of the pile because I just don't have the $$. But she was literally SCREAMING in the dressing room when I tried on the dress. Apparently it makes me look hot. I'm so not fashion conscious, so not a girl and so not into fashion and clothes and makeup, and pocketbooks and all the other things girls "need." I mean I knew it fit and looked good even, but hot? Well, Rob agreed whenI got home and tried on the dress for him so I guess it's true. Anyway, so if my Mom had her way I'd have bought out the store, but I had a limited amount of $$ to spend... And I had gotten some shirts and pants at Ann Taylor Loft (all on sale WHEEE!!!) for work earlier in the day. So I was tired and still needed shoes. And they didn't have what I needed (DARN IT!), but OY; I was so tired by the time we left the store. I am SO not a shopper. I'm not a girl. Being a girl is too much work for me. I'm so much more comfortable in my jeans and a sweatshirt, or just khakis and a t-shirt for work. It's so much easier. Shopping is too much work for me.
Friday was another uneventful day at work. And today was another uneventful day at work. Oh yeah, and matzah is starting to make me sick. Tomorrow at sundown it's all over. I'm down to the last 27 hours or so of matzah. And then I'm FREE for a YEAR! As soon as it's time I'm going for Pizza. And Monday morning on my day off I'm taking myself out for breakfast for pancakes. WHOO HOO FOR BREAD! So many people have told me this week that they like matzah. And my response was that I liked it too, until I had to eat it as a staple for 8 days... And another thing about Pesach, You NEVER realize how much of what we eat has corn syrup (often the high fructose variety) in it until you can't have it. It's absolutely amazing how processed our food world has become. But what I'm looking forward to most when Passover is over is protein. No beans and no tofu, and no rice and no peanut butter and cashew butter on whole wheat bread or 12 grain bread (YUMMY!), and no soy stuffs has wiped me out this week. There's only so much cheese and eggs you can eat in a week. I'm starting to feel malnourished.
And Rob took off for a 4-day hike in VT with a friend so I'm all alone until Tuesday. I get the house to myself, which is kinda nice and also kinda lonely. Poor Rob though, I know he likes hiking and all that, but it's POURING outside, and is supposed to stay like that for the next few days.
ANYWAY so that was my week. Coming up this week: Work tomorrow, off and errands Monday, Student starts Tuesday (YIKES), working 6 days in a row, Tuesday through Sunday, progressively packing all week, and then next Monday I'm going to Chicago for the ABA conference! YAY!!!! WHOO HOO! I'm really excited and WHOO HOO it's getting closer and I have some time to do sight seeing outside the conference so I' excited etc. Anyone from Chicago, or who's been there have any recommendations for must sees if you only have about 2 days to explore? I'm definitely going to the Art Institute Museum, but anything else I should see? Any good restaurants? Any places a veggie could eat in a meat and potatoes town? Where's the best deep dish pizza? A New Yorker at heart, I have to compare....
But much more on all that later, this post is long enough. Hmmm, maybe my week was more eventful than I thought. Ok lady I luv you BYE BYE!!!

Caught in a Judgement
This afternoon I was caught in a judgement. Yes I know I'm not perfect, and I like many people judge others. I try not to, but I get caught every so often. It's enough to give me a kick in the buttocks to make me wake up and re-evaluate how I think about things. Not that judgement is always bad, or always good, but it is good to get these kicks every once in awhile. It prevents you from being too cocky, and it helps you to become a betterer person.
Rob and I were at Stop and Shop this afternoon, getting our last minute Pesach groceries. I got most of it all last week, but I didn't get my produce and dairy stuff. I ususally save that stuff for the day or so before so it doesn't spoil.
We were on the checkout line, and I noticed the woman in front of us was buying shmuira matzah (REALLY KOSHER SUPERVISED MATZAH) and hotdog buns. I thought it was funny. I made the judgement that she wasn't so religious and wasn't keeping Passover, and that was bad of her. Not only that, I was thinking bad stuff about her that she had the nerve to buy Super Kosher Matzah along with bread. Just that, in many peoples minds, would negate the kashrut of the matzah. Part of me did find it funny on top of all the judgement, and I pointed it out to Rob in what I thought was a non-challant, not obvious way.
Well, she must have noticed, because she called me on it. We kinda made a joke, thought it was weird etc. Turns out she's having company tonight and the'yre eating outside because the house is kashered, and they need to eat supper etc. so hot dogs on the grill it is. It's a perfectly plausable reason, but immediately my mind jumped to the wrong conclusion.
Maybe it's my background. My family never keeps Pesach, we have a sort of seder and eat, but thats it for the holiday. Then again, I keep it to a pretty strict level, and I know people who are more strict than I am. Rob and I are going to the first Seder at our Rabbi's home. Our second seder will be with my family. And that's fine. I get to have my full all out seder, and I also get to spend time with my family. It's a bit of a jump for me sometimes, but I guess I'm used to it. Going back and forth from my family's and my own religious circles is a jump I'm used to. But it's not always easy. And I guess sometimes I still do some judging. I guess it's normal. I'm human.
But what I SHOULD remember, is that everyone has their own levels of comfort and spirituality. No one person is better than another because they follow the rules more strictly. I do what I need to do, and you need what you need to do and that's ok. I won't preach to you if you don't preach to me. Usually that's my philosophy. I always try to respect peoples thoughts whether or not I agree with them. It's hard sometimes, but I do try. But I'm human too, and I make mistakes and I guess I forgot today, and let it kick me in the buttocks. Embarrassing, but a good kick to make me think.
It reminds me of a story I once read in a book about different peoples different levels of practice. True story.
David, is an Orthodox Jew and keeps Kosher all year round. He was at a business meeting woth some collegues during the intermediate days of Passover. At the lunch break, others went out to local restaurants, David remained at the conference table and took out his matzah and hard boiled eggs. As he unwrapped it, a collegue joined him and unwrapped his lunch. It was ham and cheese.... On matzah. The collegue looked at David and smiled. "Boy, I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's hard to explain Passover, isn't it?"
I guess so.

Pesach Perspectives
Cleaning and preparing for Pesach, Passover, is A LOT of work. If you've ever done it, you know what I mean. It's something you dread all year, something you prepare for months in advance. Cleaning every tiny corner in your house, scrubbing, wiping, vacuuming, walls, couches, ceilings, furniture, EVERYTHING to make sure that there isn't any Chometz around for Pesach. And then you have to change your dishes, cover your countertops, re-kasher your sink and oven and stove.... you get thie idea. It's A LOT of work.
And it's worse when your shoulder hurts. But, it has to get done, and yesterday evening I cleaned my kitchen for HOURS! And all month I've been grumbling about cleaning, pulling our 2000something books off of the shelves and cleaning the shelves and putting the books back up, and washing and vacuuming, and all that jazz. Last night I was grumbling too, but then I remembered what my Rabbi had said about cleaning for Passover. About how we can bring some holiness into our everyday lives by fulfilling the mitzvahs and the rituals of Passover. About how the Hebrews had very different types of preparations to make for Pesach, and how we can commemorate and make it special and holy by making our own Passover preparations. And then I thought about how thousands of Jews around the world were at the same time preparing for Passover. And the about how thousands of Jews around the world have prepared for Passover every Spring for thousands of years. Doing the same cleaning, the same covering, the same grumbling. It made it all feel more connected, more special, more holy. And while I was working hard and my shoulder was achy, I felt betterer.
So now, as I finish up, my kitchen is covered in aluminum foil and looking like something out of a 1950's SciFi movie. We move out the bread, and move in the Matzah. We change our dishes, and somehow end up changing our perspective on the world, our souls and our holiness. It's a pretty busy time, and yet a peaceful one as well. I think I'm going to like Pesach much better this year than in the past. Not because Pesach has changed, but somehow I'm looking at it differently.
I wish you all a Chag V'Kasher V'Sameach. A Happy and Kosher Holiday.

Back/Shoulder Pain is STINKY
Yesterday my back/shoulder hurt worse and worse. It REALLY hurts!!!!!!!! ICKY OY!!!
Yesterday I spent my day doing paperwork for the PT department. I was counting all the consults we get and how many treatments and evals and reassessments we have to do, and then putting those numbers into an excel file along with how many treatments and evaluations and reassessments were actually addressed along with how many hours were worked in any given day. And excel came up with a bunch of #s and %s and it allll makes sense why we have to calculate all this stuff thats a pain in the neck every day, it really proves that we aren't meeting the hospitals needs. We can take these numers and show PROOF that we are short staffed.
But I was upset that I couldn't be a PT. I was really hurting. And I was going stir crazy in the office. There's a REASON I didn't take a desk job. And it didn't help that I was hurting worse and worse as the day went on. I was in shock as to how much I hurt. My impression thanks to help for one of the other therapists who's more orthopaedically minded than I am is that I pulled muscles in my upper back, in my scapular area on the right. My rhomboids, and my lower traps. Basically for those of you who have no clue what that means, in my upper back, my shoulderblade and a bit lower, the muscles that help attach my shoulderblade to my back and control its movement. OWIE!!!!! Yesterday after I left work, I went over to the outpatient department and one of the otehr therapists put some etim and more ice on me. YAY for ESTIM! It's a temporary pain relief modality, but it feels SO GOOD when it's on. Like a prickly mini massage. Some people hat it but I LUV IT! Especially in combo with the ice, it really took an edge off for a few hours.
The 3 advil 3 times a day I'm taking isn't touching it. And I REALLY don't want to take the muscle relaxer. DARN CRAZY PATIENT!!! I stayed home today because I hurt and well, I'm no good to the hospital as a therapist anyway... I could be at home and rest, or I could sit at work and do more paperwork. I chose to rest, nice and close to my icepack. I feel a bit better than yesterday, but I'm still sore. And I have SO MUCH more cleaning to do for Passover... I really can't afford to not be able to clean my kitchen right now.... I'm actually in shock as to how much pain I ended up in. I actually glad Ed made me go to employee health and I reported it and all that hassle. I really didn't think it was a big deal at the time, but now I think I really pulled something. It'll heal, and I'll be all right but right now it hurts. And in the meantime I hate not being able to do the things I need to do. I hate having to take off from work, I hate haveing to be stuck doing paperwork when I'm needed as a therapist, when I want to BE a therapist. And I hate that this patient made me this way.
Like I said before, that woman is something else! I won't work with her again. She's not worth the aggrivation and the safety risk and the back pain. GRRRRRRR. Oh yeah and OY!!! OY OY OY OY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Light Duty
Well it's 4:08 am and I can't sleep, I just woke up at 3 and I couldn't get back to sleep. So what do you do in the middle of the night when you can't sleep? You BLOG!! Never mind that my alarm is going off in aboot an hour...
Today I was placed on light duty at work. What is light duty for a PT? No clue. Paperwork apparantly. How did I end up on light duty you ask? OK, well since I'm up anyway and BLOGging, I'll tell you.
Remember that patient who gave me aggrivation and bled all over me? WELL, this woman is SOMETHING ELSE! She can walk pretty easily, she just doesn't want to. And staying in bed is bad for her burns. REALLY Bad. So of sourse the Big Bad Physical Therapist came to get her OOB today. She wasn't having it. "Can't you just leave me alone" "You have no sympathy/regard for sick people" (she said that one twice) "You're the devil's child!" "You're a nightmare come alive" etc etc etc.
All I wanted her to do was get OOB and walk like 3 steps to her chair. OOOOOOOOHHHHH the big bad PT!!!! The MD came in to help me encourage/convince/force her OOB. "Can you get rid of her, get her out of my room!" The MD was on my side, and told her she needed to get OOB. The nurse came in and she tried the same thing. The nurse told her you HAVE to get OOB! And so it went. An hour and a half later, me and 2 nurses managed to prevent her from falling and get her to the chair. This woman is SO UNSAFE, SO UNCOOPERATIVE, SO LAZY, SO RESISTANT, it's just plain dangerous. And the sad part is, that she can do it. I've seen her walk. She just plain doesn't want to. It's absolutely amazing what the human mind can do. The only way I could motivate her was to tell her that the sooner she got into the chair, the sooner I would leave her alone. I told her I had all day to get her OOB and I wasn't leaving until whe was there. Her response, was "I wish you would just leave now, you're horrible!" I told her I wasn't there to be liked I was there to get her OOB. She wasn't too happy.
So imagine the scenario. She had pooped A LOT in bed, didn't tell anyone and was sitting on it. She's semi-oozing from some of her burns that haven't totally healed yet. She's semi-standing, the walker is 2 feet in front of her, her ELBOWS are on the walker, and her hips are bent to about 90 degrees. She WON'T STAND UP. She WON'T LISTEN to me or the nurse helping me hold her up and prevent her from ending up on the floor because she's about to fall from the position she's in. (Did I mention this patient is obese?) She's not listening to the nurse cleaning her behind trying to clean her and help us hold her up. It was just a NIGHTMARE. Finally she's clean and we're trying to get her to take the 3 steps and pivot to her chair, all the while trying to get her to STAND UP, and trying to prevent her from ending up on the floor, because if she ended up on the floor we wouldn't have been able to pick her up again. She starts to semi-waddle to the chair, complaining and being rude the whole too long a time it took her to take the 3 steps. Finally she decides, "I can't stand anymore, I need to sit now" And she sits down. Never mind that she's next to but not pivoted towards the chair. I had to PUSH her into a pivot so that she landed on the edge of the chair and not the floor. And then she had the nerve to tell me I made her fall, it was my fault that she hurt from sitting down the way she did. Like I said, this woman is SOMETHING ELSE. So I got her back in the chair far enough that she wouldn't fall off, and left the room fuming. And as soon as I left the room she called her husband to tell him what a horrible person I am that I actually made her get OOB and sit in a chair. This woman was SHOCKED and angry when she was told that she had to go to a nursing home. She can't go home if she can't walk, so she needs STR in and ECF. AAAAAAANYWAY, so I left the room pretty angry.
AAAAAAAND with a backache. This is the third time she did this to me, was unsafe, almost fell, and hurt my back. Only this time my supervisor happened to be on the floor treating another patient and he made me go to Employee Health. OY! That's the only wor d for it OY! My back wasn't so bad, just a little sore, and not really hurting. But he made me go so I went. And the MD there saw me. And she put me on a muscle relaxer, an anti-inflamatory, and light duty. I can't lift or push or pull. Until Tuesday. I was just so exasperated by then, this whole process was not what I needed I felt fine, just a little sore, and it REALLY WASN'T a big deal. I told the MD, That meand I can't work until Tuesday. I was told the hospital has a "light duty program" I'M A PT!! ALL I DO ALL DAY IS LIFT AND PUSH AND PULL!! There ISN"T ANYTHING else to do as a PT in a hospital. The woman was in shock that I couldn't do anything. PLUS that fact they were going way overboard to cover their behinds because its an on the job injury, ie workmans comp which I understand, but again, I really didn't nee dto verboard, the muscle relaxer, the light duty... We're short staffed enough as it is... FINALLY I convinced her, that if I'm feeling better tomorrow, then I could come back and she would take me off of light duty. Guess where I'm going first thing in the morning...
So I spent the rest of my day doing paperwork, computer stuff, logging in all the proof on how short staffed we are so we can present it ot the big peoples in the hospital so MAYBE we could hire. Which is important and needs to be done, but not how I wanted to be spending my afternoon. I think my back was more aggrivated from sitting at a computer all day then it would have been if I had gone back to work. There's a REASON I didn't make a career of a desk job... I was going stir crazy all afternoon. Never mind that when I came home I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned for Passover; lifting and carrying and pushing and pulling and my back feels fine...
It's not even my back actually One of the other therapists took a look, I pulled a couple of my posterior scapular stabilizers, ie my rhomboids, and lower traps. So I'm taking Advil, I didn't fill the prescriptions she gave me, I feel fine, and that was my day. OY!! That's all I really want to say now. OY!!!
And on that note, it's 4:42 AM and I'll see if I can get some sleep before my alarm goes off at 5:15. Bye Bye.

Shoes
Do you ever wonder why women's shoes are so uncomfortable?? Why do they have to be so narrow? And so high?? And so pointy?? Some how I don't think women design women's shoes, because if they did, I think they'd be better made to fit a foot.
I HATE shoe shopping. I hate shopping in general, but shoe shopping is hard. I can't ever find comfortable shoes. I have icky feet. Flat, no arch, extra bones, had surgery, wide, hurting, the works. It's SO HARD to find shoes that are comfortable to wear, and yet still look good. Still look feminine. Still look my age and not like old lady shoes. I mean whose feet end in a point? So why are shoes made in a point? Who is truly comfortable in high high heels? I think women are conditioned to think that shoes aren't meant to be comfortable and we just have to suffer, because that's the way it is. Well I DISAGREE!!!! I want COMFORTABLE, GOOD LOOKING shoes. Unfortunately, the rest of the world and the fashion industry doesn't agree with me.
So to find shoes this year which I desparately need, has been hard. Work isn't the problem. I can wear my sneakers, or my Dansko clogs (The Most COMFORTABLE shoes I have EVER worn), and loafers aren't hard to find flat and wide. It's the dress shoes I have trouble with. The sandals, the pumps, the dressy stuff to go out with. It's SO FRUSTRATING!
So last Friday, on my half day off I went shoe shopping on a mission. To find SHOES. To find sandals, dressy sandals in black, white, brown, tan, red, green blue purple whatever..... Shoes for skirts in whatever color, just shoes I can wear out to a nice occasion. I got one pair. 4 HOURS at the mall and I only go one pair. 2 shoe stores, 3 department stores, and a few regular clothing stores that sell shoes too. I ended up getting an entire outfit actually, at Casual Corner, for my cousin's bridal shower. And they had the shoes. White sandals. Small heel, about an inch-inch and a half, heel enough to be dressy/girly, but not too high to make me uncomfortable, had straps enough to be pretty and make my ugly feet look ok, abut not too grandma-ish, I was perty happy. I SHOULD have gotten them in every color, but my funds are limited, so oh well. I can go back another time I guess.
But YAY for finally being able to find shoes. And OY for the rest of the shoes I need this summer for all the events I have because my wardrobe is pretty basic and limited because I have no $$ and hate to shop.
So that's my blurb on shoes and shoe shopping. My frustrations, and my joy of FINALLY finding something, even though the search isn't over. If anyone knows anywhere to get dressyish/dress casual shoes/sandals for skirts etc that are comfortable, lemme know!!!!
Till then, Ta ta!!

More Blood, More Scrubs, More Aggrivation
Today I got blood ALL OVER my shirt and labcoat. YUCKY!!!!!!
I was working with a patient on the burn unit, and she was like MAX assist x 1,000,000 to get up, though we did it with 2. So in getting her to sit at the edge of the bed, and stand her and pivot her to the chair, I got blood all over me. Not to mention my back hurts, I think I pulled a muscle. Did I mention that this patient was morbidly obese and was fighting and arguing with us the entire time? Unfortunately she had been in bed for 2 days, and with a burn that's BAD. So we don't give the burn patients a choice, they HAVE to work with therapy. I was called mean and crazy today. I'm not nice apparantly. I'll agree to all of that when I need to get a patient up and they're fighting me. and I'll tell them so. Ok, I'm not nice, I know it. But if it gets you OOB then that's ok with me , I tell them. I'll do it as gently as possible, and to their tolerance, but there was NO WAY I was letting her stay in bed a minute longer. The Dr. would have my head.
She told me her husband wouldn't like that I was doing this. I asked, "Your husband wouldn't want you to get OOB? " "He won't like that you're torturing me!" was the response I got. I swear, I get the weirdest comments from patients. It's amazing how people just think that laying in bed is good for them and that PT is BS. Or that they won't get PT after a knee or hip replacement. "No one told me I needed therapy afterwards!" Yeah... right.
As I digress.
So we FINALLY got her to get OOBTC, and I walked out of the room and the nurse was like Carie, you have Blood ALL over you. I looked down and it was ALL OVER my shirt and labcoat. My pants were spared. From where on the patients body the blood came from, I have no clue, but there it was. They told me to go down to the OR to borrow a pair of scrubs. So I run downstairs feeling completely gross, and I ask the nurses at the OR reception desk for a pair of scrubs, I have blood all over me.
"Who told you to come down, here?!?! We don't do that anymore! You can't come here! They have personalized scrubs here, we can't give them away!" They were SO RUDE!!! And they weren't going to tell me where to go. So I said, What do you want me to do, LOOK at my shirt! So they finally gave them to me, but I had to sign them out and swear on my firstborn child that I would bring them back tomorrow. SHEESH!!! what did they want me to do, walk around the rest of the day with blood all over me?!?!
So that was my afternoon. Blood, scrubs, aggrivation. And a little bit of back pain. And some how, I still LOVE my job. Go figure.

My Grandma Sherry
My Grandma Sherry, my Father's Mother, passed away this Friday evening. It was rather sudden, and a blow to my family. She was living in a nursing home though relatively healthy. Friday afternoon she developed chest pain, was sent to the hospital, and before they could figure out what exactly the problem was, she died of what we think was a pulmonary embolism. In other words a blod clot got stuck in her pulmonary arteries blocking the blood flow to her lungs. It was fairly quick, and a shock to all of us.
Her funeral was Sunday, and my family will be sitting shiva the beginning of this week.
My favorite most recent memory of my Grandma was the last time Rob and I went together to visit with her. She wanted to know "When's the big day??" She wanted to know when he was going to propose to me, because I needed to get married. And he was a good Jewish boy so what were we waiting for?? She made me leave the room, she kicked me out, so she could talk to him and find out when we were getting married. It was a rather amusing afternoon.
She, being a Jewish Grandmother, was ALWAYS trying to feed us. When we were little she gave us Peanut M&M's and Potato Chips when we went to visit. When she was in the Nursing Home, she always wanted to feed us her food. She would save the extra rolls and cereal boxes and ginger-ale cans to give to us. Her tray would come and she'd eat some and then say, "Now what do you want? Take some!" We would always protest that she should eat her own meal and we weren't hungry and she would be upset that she couldn't feed us. She kept asking, "Are you sure???" "Do you want some soda? Or some cereal? How about my fish?" Ahhh, the Joy of Jewish Grandmothers...
Her hearing aides never worked and every time I called, I spent more time letting her know "I'm Carie!" "No, not Faith, Carie!!!!" "YES GRANDMA, I'M CARIE!!!!" I'd shout to her. I'd end up with a sore throat but hey, that was talking to Grandma. Again, she became comical in her old age. When Rob and I went to San Francisco and Wine Country she told me "Don't get Schnockered!" and "Ride the Cable Cars!" Well, I didn't do either. Oh well.
My cousins Faith and Marin are each having simchas this year, Faith being pregnant, and Marin getting married. She was SO looking forward to the wedding and she couldn't wait for the baby. She called it "Junior", even though she knew it was a girl. "So when's Junior coming?" She was always asking about hetting her a dress for the wedding, she wanted to make sure it was all in order and would be perfect. She had her specific colors planned out on what she was going to wear, and then she would change her mind. It was pretty cute.
We will definately miss her, I will definately miss her. She was a perty cool Grandma to have.
Here's the most recent picture I had on my computer, At Marin's Engagement Party last summer. Grandma Sherry with her Grandgirls. Faith, Carie, Marin and Stefanie. WE LOVE YOU GRANDMA!!!

I was on TV!
Well, sort of. I didn't get to talk or anything, but I was in a background shot shown in the promo for the story. I was partially on News 12 CT for a WHOLE NANOSECOND!
Today I participated in an International Bioterrorism Disaster Drill called TOPOFF3. You may remember me BLOGging about being a part of the hospital's Decontamination team. Well, today we and other area hospitals as well as hospitals around the world participated in this week long drill.
We got fake patients and got them through our decontamination tent. So we got to suit up in out hasmat spacesuits and shower people and shuttle them into the hospital. Well, I didn't really get to suit up. I half suited up. My job today was to be on the "clean" side of things, assisting patients get from the tent into the emergency department. I was actually kind of miffed. I mean, I know everyones job is important and all that, but I came in on my day off to do this drill, and I don't feel I got adequate practice as a member of the team.
But hey, not everyone can do the same job. And next drill hopefully I'll get to work in the tent and feel more comfortable. And it's always a good experience to be a part of these things.
The drill went pretty well. It was pretty confusing and hectic and there are DEFINITELY kinks to be worked out but all in all I think our role went well. We were able to get people through the tent and into the hospital in a pretty reasonable amount of time. And while we can always improve, I truly hope that these drills would remain always as drills, NOT as real life disasters.
As for TV, well such a big Homeland Security project would OBVIOUSLY make the news, and so the local news channels were there filming us suit up and prepare. I'm in one of the shots helping people get into their suits. But my coworkers, and bosses were all right in there on TV. :)
And that everyone is my nanosecond of fame. :)

I'm Getting a Student!
Conversation one morning last week as follows:
Hey Carie, How about taking a student in May?
Huh? Uh, Ok, I think.
Well Eric was supposed to take her (the student), but he's in Outpatient half the time and I want her to have continuity, Michelle just had one and I'm getting another one the same time. Everyone else is part time, so that leaves you. Are you ok with that?
Um, sure. You'll teach me how to be a CI right?
Yeah! So you'll take her?
Sure.
OH!, There's a class next weekend, a CI certification and training, you should go!
Scramble Scramble Scramble for the rest of the day to register late for the class.
And that more or less was how I came to be going to this CI class this AM instead of going to work. I'm getting my first student in May, and Now I'm learning how to be a good Clinical Instructor, or CI. It was kinda sprung on me last minute and took some scrambling but here she comes and here I go!
The class was yesterday and continues today, and it's pretty good so far. Interesting and interactive and full of good info I feel I can use to help give the student a good experience. Today we finish up discussions and then take an EXAM! YIKES! Well, it's a certification, not just a class, and supposedly it's easy, but still, YIKES!
Mostly I just hope that I can give my student a positive experience. I remember being a student all too well, and I had a HORRIFIC experience on one of my clinicals (my 2nd)(My 1st was goodm, not great but not so bad, kinda mediochre) so I'm scared of giving that student that kind of horrific time. I want her to have a positive and full of learning experience like I had at my 3rd and 4th clinicals. I want her to learn and have fun, get interested and excited about PTing. I want her to not be skeeved out by all the burns. I hope I can answer her questions and teach her well, I'm nervous to evaluate her, be friendly but not her friend, be safe and a teacher but not tough and mean. I hope she's a goodstudent, one who takes initiative, is safe, is an enjoyable student. But who knows. All I know now is that shes a she and she goes to Mercy College in Westchester. It's all just a big ????questionmark????? right now. It's a big responsibility, and I'm excited for it, I WANT to take a student. I want to eventually teach in PT, so this is a great opportunity! But it's still makes me a bit nervous that I've never had a student before. My first student. Kinda like your first kiss. Well, maybe not. :)
Anyway so that's where I'm headed this rainy morning. I feel bad to leave the hospital REALLY short staffed, but I'm happy to have a change of pace and I'm happy the course is fun and interesting. And on that note I've gotta run so I'm not late so stay dry and have a great day!

Semi Apology
I want to apologize for my rudeness in the comments section of my Bat Mitzvah post. I shouldn't let other peoples anonymous opinions/comments anger me like that. Whether they were rude or not, I should not have been.
The Bat Mitzvah was a fun, appropriate event. My sister came up with a humorous way of recounting our good time. I liked it, I posted it. If you want to read into it and think badly of me and my family, that's your problem. The more I think about it, the more I don't care what you all think anymore. I was there, my sister was there, my cousins and aunts and uncles and parents and friends were all there. We know what really happened, and we had a great time celebrating a simcha in our lives. A good time was needed by my family in light of our recent tragedies. My cousin had a beautiful Bat Mitzvah, and we all had a beautiful time. And we all appreciated my sister's creativity. It gave those who were there a good laugh of remembrance. That's what really counts here. I need to stop caring what anonymous strangers think of me. I need to stop being judgmental. Maybe if I stop, then others will also.
Opinions are like rectal openings. Everyone has one. Some have two. Who cares.
So I apologize for my rudeness. But not for my good time.

Today I was a Girl
Ok, so my secret is out. I'm not a girl. ;) well, not a girly girl anyway. But I have special events going on this weekend, and well it's Purim too so I thought I'd mark the occasions and do something different. Something for myself for once. Today I got a manicure and pedicure.
WOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOO we say.
It's so COMMON. Something women do all the time, many weekly, if they cna afford it. Not me. Not my thing really. One, I can't afford it, but that's really not the only reason. It's not that I don't enjoy it, it was nice to get the foot massage and feel all clean and perty for once. I just wouldn't want to do it all the time. I'm just not one for painting my nails, I guess. I see better ways to spend time and $$$, PLUS my nails are soft and they break easily AND I have a job where a manicure doesn't hold up well. When you was your hands every 30-60 minutes, it's hard to maintain polished or long nails. So it's just not my thing.
I'm not a girly girl I guess. I don't love to spend long amounts of time on hair and makeup and clothes. I hate to spend the time blow drying my hair, I do it more because I have to to look decent. I don't usually wear makeup, and if I do it's always super simple and it takes me like 5 minutes to do. I HATE to go clothes shopping, I'm not very interested, plus there's the whole size thing.
It's not that I don't look presentable and bad all the time. I take care of myself. I'm always need and clean and well groomed. I don't wear raggedy clothes, my hair isnb't flying all over the place. But I'm just simple. Jeans usually, khakis to work, simple shirts and sweaters, hair in a ponytail, not much if any makeup. And clean fingernails. And hey, I look young. The manicurist asked me my age and was shocked when I said I was almost 27. She said I look 20. I'll take it as a compliment.
So today I was a girly girl. I got my nails painted. And I painted them PINK! My fingers a light pink, and my toes a dark bright PINK! And I worried about my dress for my cousnin Kara's Bat Mitzvah tomorrow, and I plan on spending extra time on my hair and makeup this weekend.
WOOO WOOOO! You're a GIIIIIRRRRRLLLLLL!!!!!

Popstrology
Yes, POPstrology. A new system to figure out your life and actions and personality and future based not on the stars in heaven but the stars in Rock n Roll.
I was born May 21, 1978. (You now have NO excuse to forget my birthday!)
According to Popstrology, I was born in the year of the Bee Gees. Here's what that means:
The strongest voice of popstrological protest against disco and the wicked hedonism for which it stood came from the least likely of places in 1978: the traditionally nonconfrontational constellation Oh…Canada. It was the churchy, parental Anne Murray who stood up and became the year's Opposing Star in a year when no one else was brave enough to take the job. Disco's own excesses may ultimately have done more than Anne Murray did to bring the constellation Disco Ball crashing down, but that does not diminish the importance of her dissenting voice to those born in the popstrological Year of the Bee Gees. She may have sounded like a big, fat bummer at the time, but in being one, she endowed the children of 1978 with at least some slight sense that just because the whole world seems to get behind something, it doesn't make it right. Of course that same lesson was reinforced by 1978's Wild Card star, Barbra Streisand & Neil Diamond, a popstrological Power Couple that most of the world got behind, but that in many, many ways simply wasn't right.
And my birthsong is
May 14-May 27: With a Little Luck, by Paul McCartney and Wings.
And this means:
Even a two-piece puzzle is hard to put together with one piece missing.
Yes, popstrologists lay a great deal of responsibility at the feet of your Birthstar for the aftereffects of his early-eighties forays into the constellation Power Couple, but popstrologists do not regard him as a malevolent force, per se. And they certainly don't take the John Lennon side in the debate over who the greatest Beatle was. John and Paul's bitter divorce was like most bitter divorces in that neither party offered what could reasonably be called a fair portrait of the other or an objective postmortem of the failed relationship. John was just plain mean to suggest in How Do You Sleep? that Paul's post-Beatles music was Muzak, and Paul was just plain disingenuous to play the role of the upstanding good guy when discussing the Beatles' breakup. But John was good at being mean, and Paul was good at being disingenuous. There may be no more fitting way to describe the greatest partnership in pop-music history than to say that the whole was greater than the sum of its parts, and while even John must have known this on some level, it was Paul who did the most to prove it. Was there a friend, a lover, or a colleague in your past who brought out the best in you, despite your fundamental differences? You may spend the rest of your life trying to repeat that magic, child of Paul McCartney, for you are more aware than anyone that you require a counterbalancing force to achieve true greatness. Like your Birthstar, you may experience what most consider success on your own, but your deep yearning for partnership is unlikely to let you find happiness that way.

So that's my popstralogical sign. OOOOH BABY!!! What's YOUR Sign???
One more time...
And then I decided that I didn't like the blue, so I went with a creamy color and red only. I want to colorize it only my html is stinky. So I think I'll leave it like this until I can tinker a bit more. For those of you who never saw the intermediaries, good!

i lied, sort of
I decided I didn't like the ochre after all, so I went with blue and tried to make it all more colorful, but I dont know html so well, so I guess it's a work in progress. Oh well.
New Look
I was in the mood for a new look. I needed a change. So I changed my template. :) I kinda like this "ochre" color, and its simple too which is good. I like simple. It all works out then. :)

Reaction and Question Answered
The reaction to my last post was not what I thought it might be. I think most of my anonymous commenters took the wrong message from it. While I do agree that obesity is a growing problem (no pun intended) in this country, that was NOT the point of my post.
My point was, that the body image associations our society teaches women, is unrealistic and psychologically harmful. Not that I think people should eat what they want and be obese. But, I do think that a healthy body attitude is what is needed, you can be fit and healthy and eat right and exercise and wear a size 14 or 16, or even more.
I think that as women in this country, we are taught that if we are not a size 2 then we are fat, and fat is bad so we are bad. Think about how we talk about food. We eat a piece of chocolate cake and say, "I'm being bad" You are NOT being bad, you may be making a bad food choice but you are not bad yourself. Somewhere along the line I think, we pick up the idea chocolate cake equals bad. I eat chocolate cake equals I am bad. And then we feel guilty or whatever and are hard on ourselves about it. It's not a healthy cycle to be in.
Or think about the clothing industry. If you are larger than a size 10 and have tried shopping, it can be really difficult. Clothing is often cut for smaller women. Or stores don't carry larger sizes. Certain stores (and it's becoming more popular) do not carry sizes above a 12. If you wear a 14 or larger, they tell you to go to a "Women's" store. Well, I am a size 14. And the smallest size at any "Women's" store is WAY too big on me. So I often have a very hard time finding clothing. And the stores are losing out on a lot of business, because there are pleanty of women my size. So what does it teach us? If we're not thin enough then we're not good enough to shop in a regular store, we have to go to a special store. Even if the clothing in the special store doesn't fit. Not a great message.
And we are teaching it to our children. It scare me that young girls are more afraid of being fat than they are of nuclear war, or cancer, or losing their parents. It's scary that eating disorders exist, let alone kill 20% of their sufferers. Isn't it sad that three quarters of this countries women are on a diet, and that we're teaching it to our children younger and younger, high schoolers dieting when they don't need to, 10 year olds dieting because they're so afraid of fat. What is wrong with our society when we teach these things to our children like that? I think, it's just as big of a problem as obesity, if not larger. (Again, no pun intended)
So what is wrong with some fat? Why do we all have to be a size 2 to be beautiful. I'm plagued by these issues as most women are, and I really think it is unhealthy and we need to put some sort of stop to it. THAT was the point of my post. Awareness.
And now onto Anonymous #4's Question: Carie, do overweight people experience additional difficulties recovering from the various conditions that require your PT services?
Anonymous #4, yes. And no. Obesity puts you at higher risk for High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Sleep Apnea, Arthritis, and a whole host of other things. And yes, it will decrease your life span. And yes, obesity in children is becoming a problem and getting worse, which makes all of the above risks higher. So it is a factor in your medical treatment.
I work in a hospital, so I don't usually see the orthopedic end of things, but in my experience, if one is overweight or obese, and has arthritic knees, or hips, or back problems, losing weight will ease the pain, will help the recovery from a joint replacement or back surgery, or maybe prolong the time before the surgery is needed. It definately helps orthopedic wise. Think about this, gravity pulling down on more weight pulls stronger than on less weight. When you walk, your feet exert force onto the ground, but the ground exerts force onto your feet too, which travels up your body. The heavier you are, the more forces exerted, the more likely to have arthritic joints.
As for the not, well I suppose a case could be made that obesity makes it harder to recover from medical stuff. But I'd say it's a factor, not necessarily the whole truth. I've seen both obese and non obese people with the same complications. I think that with obesity the risk facors increase and I think its more the combination of the risk factors that give the real medical healing determinant.
On a similar note, I do see a lot of people post gastric bypass surgery. Which I have mixed feelings about, and could say a lot about. To make it short though, I think it can be a useful tool for weight loss as a LAST RESORT Because it is NOT the easy way out. It's probably the hardest way out. You can't eat more than a few ounces of food at a time for the rest of your life. Exercise is just as if not more important. Diet and nutrition is EXTREMELY important. You are at higher risk for vitamin deficiencies, and osteoporosis. And there are a TON of nasty complications that can go with it. I think it is a useful tool that has become too popular and therefore is being abused. Many patients are shocked whed I tell them the day after surgery that they need to get up and walk with me, and then they have to do it on their own 3x a day. "I walk to the bathroom a lot" "I sit in my chair" (as opposed to the bed) It's hard sometimes to get people to participate, they don't realize that exercise starts day one and it's important. And on that note I'll end my shpiel on gastric bypasses.
So Obesity is a problem and health risks are there. I think what we need to do is educate our children at a young age about the importance of a healthy diet and exercise. No more fast food and video games. We need to show by example to our children these things. And we have to teach them that not everyone can be a size 2 and that's ok.
I hope questions were answered and understanding granted. And on that note, it's time for dinner!

Facts and Figures
Somebody gave me this the other day, I thought I'd share.
The average woman is 5'4", weighs 140 pounds and wears a size 14 dress, while the "Ideal Woman" portrayed by models, Miss America, Barbie and scree actresses is 5'7", weighs 100 pounds, and wears a size 2.
One third of all American women wears a size 16 or larger.
75% of all American women are dissatisfied with their appearance.
50% of all American women are on a diet at any one time.
90%-99% of all reducing diets fail to produce permanent weight loss.
2/3 of dieters regain the weight in one year, virtually all regain it within 5 years.
The diet industry (diet foods, programs, drugs, etc.) takes in over $40 billion each year and is still growing.
Quick weight loss schemes are among the most common consumer frauds.
Diet programs have the highest customer dissatisfaction of any service industry.
Young girls are more afraid of becoming fat than they are of nuclear war, cancer, or losing their parents.
50% of 9 year old girls, and 80% of 10 year old girls have dieted.
90% of high school junior and senior women diet regularly even though only between 10% and 15% are over the weight recommended by the standard height-weight charts.
1% of teenage girls and 5% of college women become anorexic or bulimic.
Anorexia had the highest mortality rate (up to20%) of any psychiatric diagnosis.
Girls develop eating and self image problems before drug or alcohol problems; there are drug and alcohol problems in almost every school, but no eating disorder programs.

Pretty intersting, huh?.....

I REALLY Needed a Laugh Yesterday
It was a bad day at work, but it got better in the evening. YAY for Watercolors Class! :)
Anyway, my friend Victoria sent me a "random thought/question" email which gave me a smile and a chuckle on a not so great day. Here are some of my favorite lines from the email, in the hopes that you'll smile too :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
Save the whales. Collect the whole set.
A day without sunshine is like, night.
On the other hand, you have different fingers.
I just got lost in thought. It wasn't familiar territory.
42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.
99 percent of lawyers give the rest a bad name.
I feel like I'm diagonally parked in a parallel universe.
Depression is merely anger without enthusiasm.
The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the
cheese in the trap.
I drive way too fast to worry about cholesterol.
Monday is an awful way to spend 1/7 of your week.
A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory.
Change is inevitable, except from vending machines.
Get a new car for your spouse. It'll be a great trade!
Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.
If you think nobody cares, try missing a couple of payments.
OK, so what's the speed of dark?
How do you tell when you're out of invisible ink?
When everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
Everyone has a photographic memory. Some just don't have film.
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.
I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder.
Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what
happened.
Just remember - if the world didn't suck, we would all fall off.

Are you a Snoop?
Did you know that a large percentage of guests in your home when in the bathroom, will take a peek inside your medicine cabinets? I've heard different percentages. Some say 40%, some say 7 of 10, I heard one that said 80-90%.
WOW! That's nuts! I wouldn't have even thought to look inside someones cabinets, mostly because I wouldn't want anyone looking in mine! I think I looked under a sink once or twice looking for extra toilet paper or a tampon. But snooping!
I read one story when looking for an exact percentage, that a woman tested this theory by emptying her medicine cabinet, and then refilling it with marbles so that when you opened it up, they all came spilling out. :) How red would THAT snoop have been!!!!!
Well, I guess I'm cleaning out any embarrassing stuff in my cabinets when guests come over...

Decon Training
Today at work I did decontamination team training. Basically because the hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center and has all the advanced cardiac and trauma care, and has the burn unit etc, it's setting itself up as a community/medical decontamination site if there's a chemical or biological attack or accident or incident, small, large, huge, whatever. So if people need dencontamination and need medical attention, they come to us and the hospital goes into lockdown and we decontaminate anyone who comes in. And no one can come in without being decontaminated first. They have to get through us! :)
A lot of the therapy staff is on the team. It makes sense, we're experts at moving people around, have the skills to help if someone can't movewell or at all on their own, and are free to help out if there's a hospital or community emergency, because at that point therapy is secondary, it's not like a doctor or nurse who can be doing more important medical stuff.
There's going to be this big international wide, I think, mock drill thing next month where we get to put our skills into action. COOL BEANS! That'll be pretty interesting.
So today was my day for training. It was fun. We got to learn about chemicals and how to classify and contain them, briefly anyway, that's not really our job but we got some background info. We spent most of the day getting in and out of decon suits, practicing getting people through the decon tents etc. Getting people through the showers, procedures about securing clothing and jewelry and valuables etc, how to deal witht he difficult person who doesn't want to get undressed or wash their hair, etc. All the possible scenarios.
Those suits are HOT! They don't let anything in, which means they don't let anything out either, which means it gets hot and sweaty in there. And they're big and bulky, and funny looking. But it was a fun session figuring them out and getting the kinks out of getting them on andoff, taping oursleves in. We had to think of all the little things, like go to the bathroom first, and pull back your hair, secure your glasses, tuck your pants into your socks so they don't ride up your leg, all the little things other than the important stuff like taping it up properly and making sure the airflow is on so you can breathe and not suffocate. :)
People were thinking Outbreak or stuff like that, me I was thinking of the Child Detection Agency from Monsters inc.
Oh well. It shows you where MY mind is...
But it was good training to be had, I get to be helpful and useful and it's a good skill to know, and it keeps me at the safest place in the hospital if there's an emergency. Deconed and clean, in an inpenetrable suit. :) WHOO HOO! Space Alien, Monster Carie!!!!!! :)

I forgot to BLOG about last weekend
Last last weekend that is. This weekend that just passed I worked. Blah. But LAST weekend, Rob and I went into the city to see the Lion King on Broadway. :) TEE HEE!
We went in a bit early and got to see the gates in Central Park. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Well the city was PACKED! Central Park was PACKEDer. And the gates were CONSTRUCTION CONE ORANGE!!! The concept was pretty cool, and the reaction was fun to watch, and it was weird to see them everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE! But any individual gate itself was pretty ugly. Made worse by the fact that it was hideously orange. "Whoever said that orange was the new pink, was seriously disturbed." But they kinda grew on me as we walked around. Like I said, the concept was pretty cool, and the fact that they were everywhere was pretty cool. And the city was pretty alive, albeit crowded.
We had supper at one of our favorite diners, because you just can't find a good diner in CT. The ones in Stamford are especially bad. I love NY diners, I love diners period (it's in my blood) but NY ones are the best. But that's another topic for another BLOG.
The Lion King was FANTABULOUS! If you haven't seen it, see it!!!! It was so great, and I knew all the lines and songs and all that from seeing the movie so many times, but the costumes, and the sets, and the staging, and the dancing, and the voices, it was all just amazing. I LOVED Rafiki. My favorite character in the story, but the woman who played her (YES in the movie it was a him) was awesome. I really was impressed how a lot of the scenes were staged, I was pretty curious to know how they were going to portray some of then, especially a stampede of wildabeasts. But it was done, and very creatively, really well done. We sat up in the mezzanine which was fine because there was stadium seating so we (well, I) could see everything, but we missed the parade of animals down the orchestra aisles during the Circle of Life at the beginning of the show. Poor Rob though. He had Marge Simpson sitting in from of him. Quite Literally. This woman had braided hair that went up in a beehive to probably 8 inches or so high off her head. And she was a tall woman too, so it made it that much worse. Poor Rob, he really couldn't see ANYTHING. He was kinda joking around about it, but I felt bad that he couldn't see. We did have a great time though, and I do recommend that you see the show if you ever get the chance. And hopefully Marge Simpson wont be in town. But YAY FOR THE LION KING!!!
So that was my last weekend in the city that I forgot to BLOG about. :) I miss being in NYC, CT just doesn't cut it sometimes. It was a nice day. Hopefully I'll have more of them in the enar future, as the weather gets warmer, I miss being able to walk around NY and watch the people come out of winter hiding and all that fun stuff.
And on that note, its an early bed for me, as I must get up early for work work work work manana. Nite Nite all!

New Driving Discovery
I95 in Southern CT runs mostly East/West unlike the rest of the highway which runs North/South. I live in Stamford and work in Bridgeport, so I go East in the AM and West in the PM. Ususally around the times that the sun is rising and setting, ESPECIALLY in the winter. So I ususlly have the sun in my eyes, or just to the right of my eyes during my commute. It can be perty blinding, and uncomfortable.
Now I 95 is an Expressway, not a Parkway so there are trucks all over the place. I'm usually pretty neutral about trucks, don't love them but I'm not super scared of driving with them either. They can sometimes make me a bit nervous, especially the ones that carry the cars, I'm always afraid the cars are going to come toppling off the truck. But I've found a random new trick to use the trucks to my advantage when driving to and from work to make my commute easier. Get into a lane just to the left of a big truck, and stick with it. Then, the truck blocks the sun coming from the right/front and I can see and my commute is less blinding. :) Ok, not a genius thing, but it has made my life easier on those daily blinding drives. AND, it makes me not so scared to be close to a truck as I once was.
So ta dum!!! My new driving discovery. Ahhh, the strange things my brain comes up with to BLOG about.
have a good Sunday! Time to get people OOBTC, whether they want to or not!!!!

Some of my favorite movie lines
Here are some from various movies that always make me laugh. Some of you may recognize them from some of my away messages on AIM.
Can you guess which movies they belong to??
"I love it when a fat guy scores, because when a fat guy scores you get a fat guy dance!!"
"First of all, I wanted to say congratulations. Three years ago we were elected to the White House by one of the narrowest margins in history. Today, Kodak tells us that 63% of registered voters say we're doing a good job.
Wait a minute, you wanted me to poll REGISTERED voters?!?"
"If anyone needs me I'll be in the Roosevelt Room, giving Louis oxygen"
"The man is the head but the woman is the neck and she can turn the head any way she wants!"
"I had a heart, I had a heart, I had a Heart warming dream about you!
It must have been a NIGHTMARE!
NO, You were..
Scary?
Sexy!
You had a sex dream about me?"
"Describe your perfect date?
I would have to say April 25th, because it's not too hot and it's not too cold. All you need is a light jacket!"
"What do ya want me to do, dress in drag and do the hula?"
"I really earned my stripes with that piece.
I earned my stripes when I could get through a bris without fainting
I talked McDonalds out of the McOyster
And a grateful nation thanks you."
"Do you remember me?
No, I don't.
I was in here yesterday, you wouldn't wait on me?
Oh...
You work on commission, right?
Yeah...
Big mistake. BIG, HUGE! I have to go shopping now!"
"I am a nice shark, not a mindless eating machine. If I am to change this image, i must first change myself. Fish are Friends, Not Food!"
"SHARKBAIT HOO HA HA!!!"
Ok, well there are more but it's 6Am on Saturday so my brain isn't functioning yet.
I'll post more some other time. In the meantime enjoy and SMILE!

Painting and Drawing Classes
My art classes started this week. A substitute was found for my watercolors class, so that one wasn't cancelled. But George did have a stroke, and will be out of commission for awhile if not indefinitely. I do hope that he is doing well, as I have no info other than he had a stroke, but I wish him a speedy recovery and I miss him.
Our sub is ok, I think she felt overwhelmed, taking on a class with like 2 days notice. But I think it'ss turn out ok. It'll be nice to get another perspective. And I still want to learn with a teacher, not just paint on my own.
Drawing is pretty good so far. I think it will be challenging and helpful, interesting and fun, frustrating and relaxing all at the same time. But mostly I hope that I can gain ideas and knowledge of shapes and bojects, but especially of perspective and light. I'd like to be able to do more challenging foregrounds in my paintings. And I think the drawing will help.
And well, that's really all there is to day about the first days of classes. You spend a lot of time talking about materials and not doing a ton of art the first day. Everyone is at a different level so usually you get tot he second class and people are stocked up on supplies and ready to go. Then they get more interesting. :) And hopefully I'll have some new and imporved stuff to show y'all soon. Wow, look at me, a New Yorker turned New England resident saying y'all. Where did THAT come from!?! :)

Visitors to my BLOG
I love watching the referrals to my BLOG from my webcounter website.
Most who come to my humble second and better abode on the net have an unknown referral which I'm assuming means you all get here by yourselves and you like to read what my mind has to say.
Some come through the NEXT BLOG button at the top right corner of the screen, which if you click, Blogger will take you to a random BLOG. I've seen some pretty cool BLOGS that way, and become a "regular" on other random peoples BLOGs.
Still others come through websearches on random subjects, the two most popular being poop and tonsoliths, not necessarily in that order. And these are due to my random anecdotes about patients and their incontinence at the hospital, and of course my bout (which continues on and off) with tonsil stones that don't want to come out and make my tonsils hurt. This happened last night actually, I coughed up the largest one I had ever seen, so big in fact that my otherwise now feeling normal tonsils, well my right one anyway, HURT for a few hours until it came out. And once it did, I felt betterer. :) And so I digress... ANYWAY.....
I do hope that any info I provided on my bout with tonsoliths and dumb ENT's tellling me I needed them out, and smart ones telling me not to worry, unless I can't breathe or swallow for long periods of time because adult tonsillectomies are SUPER DUPER PAINFUL, helped you and was the info you were looking for.
And for those of you lookng for info and jokes on poop, WHY???
So thats that. Entertainment from referrals to my BLOG. Yes, I'm strange and in need of other forms of entertainment. But it's fun anyway.
So how did YOU come to visit me???? I'm curious to hear who's reading ym BLOG and why! Lemme know! :) TTYS!! Time for work!

Patient of the Day
Today I saw a patient who is 76 years old and was admitted for c/o severe back pain after a yoga class. Bad for the back pain but HOW CUTE IS THAT!?! 76 years old and taking YOGA!!!
And she was completely adorable. First of all she doesn't even look close to 76. She plays golf with a group of gals, who "Don't know how old [she is]", she runs obstacle courses for competition with her dog, and she exercises and works out all the time. And when I tied her gown up in the back for our walk I told her as I do many patients, "No free shows today!" Her reply was "You're no fun!!!"
HOW CUTE IS SHE!?!?!?! It was definitely a pleasurably cute patient to have today. She gets my vote for the Patient of the Day. :)

Supper
Tonight with some random protein crumbles and veggies I'm gonna make what Rob likes to call "Potatoes with Crack"
I got it from the Food Network. Which I love and get lot's of ideas and recipies from. This one is simple, but REALLY YUMMY!
Roasted Baby Potatoes with Rosemary
Recipe courtesy Rachael Ray (YAY for Rachael Ray!!)
2 pounds small potatoes, baby Yukon gold or red skin potatoes
6 cloves garlic, cracked away from skin
2 to 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, enough to just coat potatoes
2 tablespoons fresh rosemary leaves, chopped
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
Halve potatoes and place on a cookie sheet. Combine with cracked cloves of garlic. Coat potatoes and garlic with extra-virgin oil and season with rosemary, salt and pepper.
Place potatoes on center rack of oven and roast 20 minutes, until just tender.
TA DUM!!!!!!! Potatoes with crack!!!

I have a Question...
... for anyone out there who is a nurse.
Do they teach you transfers in nursing school? How to get a patient safely in and out of bed? How to get from the bed to the chair and back? Even if the patient is a bit weak?
I thought it was taught. But from some of the nurses at the hospital, you wouldn't know it. They seem to think that patients can't get out of bed until PT sees them. Or if PT gets them up, then PT has to get them back. Reality Check.... we don't have the time to get patients in and out of bed for the nurses. It's bad enough that we're something like 40 evals behind. And I only notice this on some floors. Why do some nurses know how to get patients back to bed and others don't?
Anyway, I know I'm just complaining, but it's been a really busy and cranky day, and it makes me more cranky when I get calls to come ad get a patient back to bed because the nurse says she doesn't know how to.
I was just curious about learning safe transfers. I thought it was taught, but I suppose I could be wrong.
Any ideas?

GOOD MORNING!! :) :(
It's 6;10 AM according to Rob's computer, and it's Saturday morning and I'm getting ready for work. WORK. Yes, Yes, I know, WORK. Hospital calls.....
But complaining about working the weekend, getting up ealry instead of sleeping in a bit and going to shul I have done, and that wasn't the point of my BLOG early this morning.
Watercolors. My watercolor class is cancelled!!! George is ill and can't teach the class and if they can't find a substitute it's cancelled! EEEK! It would be stinky if the class was cancelled because I really enjoy it, but GEORGE!!! And I only know him through the class, so I can't go inquiring around, but still it's NOT COOL! I hope that he's ok. He's a great guy and a great teacher and I hope he's ok. I love my watercolors, class, it teaches me not to be a perfectionist, to let the watercolors take charge as they may, to bring balance to the perfectionistic and artistic/creative sides of me. To know not to have oto copy a painting exactly from the photo. To do sketches and value studies before starting a piece. (Those are hard for me) To know when a piece is done, and not to touch it lest you ruin it! George likes moderation. "Everything in Moderation Including Moderation!" he always says, and if you recieve emails from me you'll know that. And while I can watercolor on my own, it would still be nice to go to class and get instruction, and well, even if they find a sub, I hope George is ok.
And on that note, I must dash. 6:17 AM and I have to finish getting ready to leave in about 13 minutes. Have a good Saturday all! Be well George, I'm thinking about ya!

On My Day Off...
I had to go to work. Yes, I went to work. Not for pay, but to return a pager. I accidently took the 424 home with me last night. The 424 is the "in charge" pager, for PT/OT/Speech, though mostly PT, the one which the nurses, doctors, and case managers call when they need a patient seen, for discharge planning, for safety, because they want them seen.... RIGHT NOW!!!
And I forgot to take it off yesterday after work and I took it home. And since it's needed, and since it gets paged a million times a day, it couldn't be left for a day, so I had to return it. Oh well. A trip to work on my day off...
Although it wasn't that bad. It took longer to get there and back than it did to drop off the pager, even with the elevators stopping at every floor on the way upstairs. But it had to be done so I did it. It got me up and out early though.
So with my up and early out, I was productive. I got a haircut, well hair trim anyway, I did some errands, I went to the library, went to the gym, took a nap, read, relaxed, cooked tabouleh, and greenbean/bean salad and potato soup, and hard boiled eggs. :) So I had a productive and yet relaxing day off. :)
Days off are nice. Even if they mean you have to work the weekend. But days off are still nice. :)

Today
Today, Rob attacked me with SQUISHES before I left for work. YAY for Rob attacking me with SQUISHES!! I like that. Even if it makes it a bit hard to breathe.
Today, an old friend from college called me while I was driving to work to tell me that he was in the car in front of me. He looked back in his rear view mirror and saw me in the car behind him. HOW WEIRD!! I haven't spoken with him in AGES! Really strange and kinda cool.
Today, I stopped in the midst of climbing the stairs to go to see my next patient on the 10th floor and once again realized, HEY!!! This is WORK!!! They PAY me to do this! COOL!!!! I love that. Once again, in a random way I realize I'm so lucky to have a job I enjoy.
Today, I saw alllllll the burn patients on the unit except for one who isn't on program. (hand burn) Today, the Burn Unit is capital FULL. Which means today, the Burn Unit is CRAZY! Today, an older patient on the Burn Unit asked me if I had a hot date tonight, and if not, he would step in. :) How cute is he!?!?!
Today, there was WAY too much chocolate at the hospital. Today, I told myself I really need to control myself around chocolate, because today I realize how addicted to chocolate I am. BTW, if I eat equal amounts of dark and white chocolate, is that a balanced diet??
Today, One of the OT's found out she passed her boards, and now we have another OT! YAY! Can we get another PT too?? And she got flowers at work from her boyfriend because of it. How sickeningly sweet!
Today, the sunset was beautiful. And it shone in my eyes the WHOLE way home. But I wouldn't have had it any other way. I got to look upon a gorgeous pink and red and orange sky all the way home.
Today, I had a strange supper. Moroccan Carrot Salad on a sandwich with mayo. REALLY strange and yet YUMMY at the same time.
Today, I registered for the ABA Burn Conference in Chicago in May. YAY! A whole week of the Burn Conference. I didn't get into all of the symposia I wanted to because I'm registering a little late but it's ok. It'll be a great learning experience anyway, a ton of rehab stuff, AND it's all expenses paid. I just have to put it all on my card and they'll pay it back. TEE HEE!! So I registered for the conference and booked a flight. Didn't do the hotel yet, but I have to check and see who I'm rooming with and if she booked a room yet. I don't want to double book anything. But the cool thing is that I gave myself enough time the day before and the day after the conference to sightsee around Chicago. The conference starts early Tuesday morning so I'm leaving Monday morning and I have most of Monday to hang around. And then it ends late Friday night and I'm not leaving until Sunday so I have time Saturday to explore some more. :) TEE HEE!!! Anyone have any good sights to see in Chicago in May??
Today, it's been perty good so far. Yay for Today! Hopefully Tomorrow will be just as good.

Conversation Hearts
Well, it's Valentine's Day, and I don't get all happy-go-lucky and obsessive about it. (I don't even LIKE the day for various reasons) BUT, it means that it's time for conversation hearts to flood the candy dishes. Ya know, those icky-tasting, hard-sugar hearts with things written on them. I noticed them at the hospital today. They've changed since I was a kid, probably the last time I had some.
I remember them saying things like Be Mine, Love You, I'm yours, My Girl, or You're Sweet. These said You're Hot, Bad Boy, My Baby, and Email Me! Just slightly different sayings. And yet not so slight.I think that it's just another reminder that either I'm getting old, or kids today are maturing too fast and know WAY more than they should.
Maybe it's just me. Or... Maybe not. What do you think??

Speaking of Library Books...
I've been reading still. I finished my cadever book, and now I'm on to Wicked.
I really liked the cadevar book, it was interesting, and actually pretty funny. And it makes ya think. Although I think I'm taking it off of my wish list. One read is enough, I don't need to own it, I don't see myself reading it over and over again. If I really want to read it again, I can go back to the library. I'm enjoying Wicked. It's kinda cool to imagine the lives before the Wizard of Oz.
And I'm late to return my books.. and I still have 2 more. I think I was over ambitious this checkout, I took out 4 long books. Oh well, some late fees and renewels this week should fix it.
But YAY for the library! I've been using the library forever and ever. I'm a bookworm, love to get lost in a story. Although with all the books that Rob has in the apartment (about 1200-1300) why I go out to the library is beyond me.
Any recommendations for a good book to add to my list to read? Tee hee!

Reading and the Fonz
Did You know that when Fonzie got a library card on Happy Days, he said "There's a card out there for everyone!"
And then library card enrollment nationally went up 500%???
Now THAT'S power!!!
I love my Library card. I just hate the late fees, because I always forget to bring my books back on time. Oh well.
Anyways, YAY for the Fonz and Happy Days and Library cards!!!!

Superbowl Party and Bottle Caps
Last night Rob and I ventured into Da Bronx to Adam And Laurie's apartment and watched the Superbowl. (well, sort of watched anyway) With friends. It was a fun night. :) I got to see friends I don't often get to see because I live in Bumblef..., I got to watch commercials that cost $80,000 per second, I sort of watched football, I ate and ate food, YUMMY food, I got to play with a baby, I got a rose bush, and I read bottle caps. Read bottle caps???
Well some of the beer bottles had sayings inside of them . Kinda cute and kinda thought provoking. Here are some.
I thought they were interesting so I thought I'd share. I had a good night last night. And it was nice to be off today. :) Thanks Adam and Laurie!!!!

Yakko's World
For some odd reason, a few years ago I memorized a strange song. An Animaniacs song. Who???? The Warner Brothers, Yakko and Wakko, and their sister Dot. (She's CUTE!) A crazy WB cartoon that I LOVED in High School and still find rather amusing. Not totally meant for kids, but what cartoons really are? Anyway, I love their antics and the crazy things that they come out with, especially the songs. One of my favorites, was Yakko's World. And so I memorized it. It's not ENTIRELY accurate, but hey, I didn't write it, only memorized it. it's one of the strange things I can do. Quite a party trick!

SNOOD!
YAY FOR SNOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this game. It is colorful and challenging and mindful yet mindless, and addicting and FUN! I started playing in college, and somehow I managed to keep it on my computer and still pass and graduate. I know many people who have had to forcibly take it off of their computers because of it's addictiveness and they were failing their classes. Sounds like I knew some dumb people. But I do not blame the people. I blame the game. It's THAT GOOD! Anyone who has ever played and become addicted will immediately understand.
Now I'm not a huge computer game type person. I never was big into Nintendo or Playstation or any of that stuff. I did have and still do have an original Nintendo system, and I never beat any of the games. I just played for fun. (Once in college my roommate had a Super Nintendo and I played Marioland and saved the whole game l and was like 5 boards from completing and winning the game. I had been playing ALL YEAR! And then it got deleted accidentally and I was pisses and I just gave up. I didn't have the heart to start all over.)
Anyway, once in awhile a game comes up, usually a puzzly type game, that addicts me. Like Tetris, or Collapse, or Endorfun, or SNOOD!!!
Snood has stayed on my computer and has had its phases of addiction. My senior year in college, my second year in PT school, post ankle surgery, studying for the boards, this week....
I think its complex simplicity is what makes it so addicting. I think its color and childishness is what makes it so appealing. There are these funny little faces called "Snoods" which make faces at you, a blue circle face that looks a bit like Grover, a light blue hairy square, a green square with rounded corners, a purple triangle with horns, a gray old face thing, a red frankenstein square circle, and a yellow six sided thing with sun glasses, all making faces and sticking out their tounges and smiling and laughing at you. They cover the screen in various patterns. You shoot the face in your space-age looking shooter at the block of faces above and try to get 3 in a row touching to make them disappear. You bounce them across walls and they always stick where you don't want them to, kinda like saran wrap. Every time you shoot a face there's a counter thing at the side that goes up. When the counter gets to the top, the ceiling of the screen lowers a notch. Your job is to get rid of all the "Snoods" on the screen without letting them drop down and touch the floor. There are colorfully patterened backgrounds that always change, different levels, puzzle games, and you can even create your own levels, if you register that is.
And that's SNOOD. I like it. And now that I have a BLOG I can BLOG about SNOOD!!! and spread the addiction. Luckily all I lose now is sleep when I play and not study time. :) But it's fun and keeps me quiet and occupied and out of trouble. And we ALL know how much trouble I need to be kept out of!! ;)
